Music from the film Viola, produced by Richard Davies
Songs Composed by Ravi Shankar

'Ravi Shankar is the Godfather of World Music' (George Harrison)

The late Ravi Shankar, legendary sitarist and composer who was made famous through his connections with the Beatles, was India's most esteemed musical ambassador and a singular phenomenon in the music worlds of East and West. As a performer, composer, teacher and writer, he did more for Indian music than any other musician.

The music:
Transmiigration Macabre is not an avarage Ravi Shankar album. Overtly psychedelic, sometimes closer to Coltrane's mystical free jazz than world music Shankar is famous for, Transmigration is one of those records that reveals itself in multiple layers.

The film:
Ravi Shankar composed Transmigration Macabre for the 1967 British art film Viola. The film tells of the growth of a possessed man's belief that his dead wife has returned to life in the form of a cat that pursues him. The music traces his emotional turmoil, struggles and eventual victory against the dominating influence of his wife after her death.
