Nice music by Donald Fraser moves this classic tale along, and it's all very much in keeping with the spirit of this delightful adventure story for children. Lovely performances open each chapter of the two-disc set, including such highlights as a rapturous oboe solo played by Alan Vogel to introduce Chapter Five, 'The Mermaid's Lagoon.' Chapter Seven, 'Peter to the Rescue,' is heralded by a particularly heroic score. The music is performed by Donald Fraser and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. The narrator is the distinguished British stage and television actor, Derek Jacobi, who's got the kind of voice that could make great poetry out of the copy on the back of a shampoo bottle. Words and music make a winning combination here.
